Counseling Internship Program

We provide internships to well-qualified counseling, psychology, social work or marriage and family therapy students.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a masters or PhD program.
• Must be in a field such as social work, counseling, psychology or marriage and family therapy that would lead to licensure to practice psychotherapy in Arizona.
• Will consider other fields on a case-by-case basis, such as marketing or IT.

Agency Description

Deer Valley Counseling is a private practice agency with an eclectic client population that includes individuals, couples, and families as well as heterosexual, gay, lesbian and transgender. Ages range from adolescent to adult. Modalities include individual, couples, family and group counseling. Common presenting issues include general mental health issues, relationship issues, gender dysphoria, anger management and sexual issues.

Internship Job Description

Interns duties will include as many aspects of private practice as is practical and appropriate—

• Observe and facilitate group counseling
• Observe individual, couples and family counseling sessions
• Work with your own clients in individual, couples and family counseling sessions
• Perform other duties typical of private practice
• Intern will be supervised at all times by the clinical director Sandra Nettles, LCSW, MSSW

Group Observation

We allow well-qualified students to observe groups. No more than one student at a time, please.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a masters or PhD program.
• Must be in a counseling field such as social work or counseling.
• Must sign a contract stating they will observe only and will maintain confidentiality.

We answer the phones 7 days a week between the hours of 7 am and 8 pm. We are open evenings and weekends including both Saturday and Sunday.
