Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious condition that sometimes develops following a traumatic event that is either experienced or witnessed. People with PTSD may experience some of the following symptoms—

  • Repeatedly reliving the trauma in the form of nightmares and disturbing memories during the day
  • Sleep problems or changes in appetite
  • Feel detached or numb
  • Easily startled, on edge, overly alert
  • Tendency to avoid long-term thinking
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Sadness, despair, or hopelessness
  • Trouble feeling affectionate
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Trouble concentrating on daily activities
  • Irritability
  • Aggressiveness
  • Distress when encountering situations that remind you of the trauma

Sandra Nettles uses a cognitive-behavioral approach to the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She will help you address your traumatic memories in a safe and supportive environment. Sandra also teaches new skills, such as relaxation techniques, including guided imagery and deep-breathing exercises, as a healthy way to relieve anxiety and stress. We also use EMDR therapy to treat PTSD.
